This weekend during the worship service at church I was reminded of a favorite hymn with lyrics by Adelaide Pollard:
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Have Thine Own Way, Lord! Lyrics by Adelaide A. Pollard
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.
I long to wait yielded and still. I am grateful for the reminder that in the stillness God meets me and molds me into the person He created me to be.
I’ve always found comfort in the the concept of God being the potter and me the clay. Often I feel more like a hard brick coming out of the kiln than a pliable mound on the potter’s wheel.
Nonetheless, a simple reminder to wait yielded and still is all it takes to bring me back to the present moment where I breathe in and out, quiet my racing mind and realize I can have circumstances without them having me. It is in this stillness that I yield to the potter and allow him to mold me into the vessel that carries his love and light into the world.
